Watch the video clip to see the debate on PBS' To The Contrary between the president of the Independent Women's Forum, Michelle Bernard and the director of Women in Media and News, Jennifer Pozner. My finding of this debate was actually quite serendipitous as I just saw the Vagina Monologues for the first time last night. Bernard is arguing that chivalry is dead (much in the line of fellow crazy Harvey C. Mansfield) and that all this talk about vaginas is crude and unhelpful. The IWF (as a backlash against Eve Ensler's Vagina Monologues) have created their own movement known as "Take Back the Date" in order to promote traditionally heteronormative dominant/submissive social dating codes for college students. She goes on to attack feminism as the cause for college women's rampant "hooking up" and that the Vagina Monologues (and all their vagina shaped suckers) are anti-men and killing cupid. It's priceless in its absurdity, but alarming none-the-less, as Bernard refuses to acknowledge that the purpose of the Vagina Monologues is to end violence against women (specifically, their vaginas) by reaching out to both women and men to open up those all too important conversations.
