A little birdie has told me that the Andre Carson campaign to replace his grandmother in Congress will be dealt a not-so-pleasant surprise today. I promised to let someone else break the news, but suffice it to say that the growing opposition to Carson's campaign never ceases to amaze me.

Not only do the Republicans and Libertarians want to defeat Carson, several Democrats are talking of switching tickets for the special election just so Carson's chance in the primary will be diminished. The rational seems to be if Carson loses to Elrod in the special election there's no way he'll get chosen by primary voters to run against the man who just defeated him. The other benefit these cross-over voters see is that if Elrod is elected, Democrats will come out in droves to defeat him and return the seat to Democratic control. In a gubernatorial election year, this could help swing that race as well...

It's worth noting that no relative of a previous Congress person has won any of the special elections held during this session of Congress as nepotism and cronyism has caused a voter backlash.
