The Indiana ACLU and the principal of Lebanon High School say that they've reached a deal in the case of the anonymous, female high school student who wanted to go to prom in a tuxedo:

"School policy for this year's prom will be that all attendees shall wear appropriate formal attire with no gender-based attire requirements imposed," the statement said. "Female students will be permitted to wear tuxedos if they choose."

Why the Indiana ACLU had to sue in the first place is beyond me. These sorts of disputes have happened over and over again when it comes to gender representation at school-sponsored events, and the Constitution is clearly on the side of students who want to dress in a way that reflects their gender identity.

As Bil posted earlier, she's a lesbian who feels that a dress makes a certain statement about her sexuality that she doesn't want to make. Which is fine, since schools shouldn't be in the business of imposing sexual identities on students, no matter what the fundamentalists think.
